Locust Fork River

Locust Fork River is Blount County’s signature paddling waterway, with shoals, gentle bends, and scenic rock-lined banks that make every float feel remote and refreshing. Paddle calm sections for a laid-back canoe or kayak trip, then pull over for picnics, wildlife watching, or casting a line. Access points along the county make day trips easy.

Alabama Cup Premier Whitewater Race

The Alabama Cup Racing Series is a spring whitewater tradition featuring competitive canoe and kayak races on two North Alabama rivers. In Blount County, paddlers take on the Locust Fork Whitewater Classic, navigating a slalom-style course with approximately 25 gates set on Class II/III rapids. Designed to be spectator-friendly with walking access alongside the course, the Locust Fork race draws competitors and fans alike, showcasing the river’s energy, outdoor appeal, and Blount County’s strong connection to paddling and adventure.

Kings Bend Overlook Park

King’s Bend Overlook Park sits along the scenic Locust Fork River just north of Cleveland, offering visitors a beautiful overlook and direct access to the water via the Grand Staircase public access point. Managed by Blount County, the park provides a large parking area, benches, and river access popular with paddlers, anglers, and nature lovers alike. Its overlook from the old river bridge makes it a great spot to enjoy river views, launch a kayak or canoe, or simply relax along one of North Alabama’s most picturesque waterways.

Taylor Riverside Park

Taylor Riverside Park is a Locust Fork access point with parking, a staircase to the water, and a kayak/canoe ramp—ideal for launching a float or stepping in to fish the shoals. Completed in 2024 through Friends of the Locust Fork River and maintained by Blount County, it includes picnic tables and benches for a break.

Bruce Phillips River Park

Bruce Phillips River Park in Susan Moore offers a safe, family-friendly put-in on the Locust Fork River and a paddle ideal for beginners and paddle boarders. Built by Friends of the Locust Fork River with county support, the park provides fenced parking, an improved footpath to the water, and a canoe/kayak ramp for launching.
